Leon Henry Oliver “Smokey”

Leon Henry Oliver, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and Vietnam War veteran, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 21 2024. A devoted family man and a true pillar of strength, Leon’s life was marked by unwavering love, hard work, and service to others.

Leon was born in Phenix Alabama in 1954 and grew up with a deep sense of responsibility to his family. He was a protective and caring presence to his siblings, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As the glue that held his family together, Leon always offered guidance, support, and wisdom. He played a vital role in raising his grandchildren, teaching them life lessons, and creating cherished memories at family barbecues, where he proudly manned the grill.

Leon’s life was defined by dedication and service. In his early career, he worked on the assembly line at Chevrolet before joining the military, where he served honorably during the Vietnam War. After his time in the military, Leon transitioned to a successful career in civil service, spending 17 years specializing in supply. Leon’s passion for martial arts was an integral part of his life. As an accomplished martial artist, he opened Taekwondo studios in Waianae and Wahiawa on the island of Hawaii, where he taught children and adults of all ages free of charge. Leon organized statewide Taekwondo tournaments, fostering community spirit and bringing people together through his love of the sport.

Among his many accomplishments, he was especially proud of winning national Taekwondo championships two years in a row, earning countless medals and trophies that filled his home and served as a testament to his dedication. Family was Leon’s greatest joy, and he was deeply involved in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He took pride in teaching them Taekwondo, attending their tournaments, and supporting their milestones, from school award shows to sports events. His ability to make them smile and feel loved was unmatched. Leon will be remembered as a jack of all trades, a steadfast provider, and a hero to those who knew him. His legacy of love, service, and dedication will live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Leon is survived by His wife Peggy Oliver , Daughters Janell Williams and Star Shelton, Grand children, Starr taylor , Kiara & Stephon baker , Tiara Shelton , Solomon ,Adam ,Malachi & Turtle Williams , Sonny and Micah Bargas, His great-grandchildren Derrick , Savannah, Sophia , Denver & Samantha Taylor. He was preceded in death by his grandson Stirling Oliver , Mother Vivian Oliver , brother William Oliver May his memory be a blessing and his legacy an inspiration.
