Celebration of Life
It is with profound sadness and much love that we announce the passing of Rodney Chew Lun Hee. Born in Honolulu to Charles Wah Kin Hee and Thelma Kam Oi Chun Hee, Rod is survived by wife Suzanne; sons Jeff (Yvonne), Kevin (Randi), and Andrew; granddaughters Kyra and Katelyn; brother Michael (Beverly) and sister Cathlen Daenz.
A graduate from Maryknoll High School, Rod continued his education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa earning a BA in Sociology and a Master of Social Work. In 1984, Hawaii’s Volunteer Guardian ad Litem (also known as CASA) was introduced to Hawaii under his leadership. After a 35-year career with the State of Hawaii, he retired as a Family Court administrator. Before his final retirement with Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii, he was awarded “2006 Program Staff Person of the Year” for the West Region.
During his retirement, Rod made jams and jellies as a weekly volunteer for the Lyon Arboretum and was a member of and studio monitor for the Koko Head Potters Hui. An avid reader and pickleball player, he enjoyed visiting family, traveling abroad and meeting monthly to have lunch with long-time friends.
Rod’s life was defined by his kindness, generosity, and deep sense of service to others. He exemplified his values in all he did – devoting himself to his family and friends, while extending his compassion to those less fortunate, particularly vulnerable youth. His love, actions, and wisdom will be deeply missed, yet will live on through the many lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held for Rod at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 3:00pm. Please arrive prior to the service to sign the family guest book.
