Celebration of Life
In Loving Memory of Sophia Akanisi Turaga
Sophia Akanisi Turaga was born on January 8, 1944, in Rotuma, Fiji Islands. She was blessed with gifted hands and a creative spirit. She found joy in crafting and sewing, and was especially known for her beautiful Fijian salusalu leis that she made with love.
Sophia had a deep love for dancing, which made her time working at the Polynesian Cultural Center especially meaningful. She was truly an island girl at heart. She loved to travel, enjoyed Polynesian food and seafood, and always saved room for something sweet.
A proud alumna of Liahona High School, Sophia graduated as the valedictorian of her class. She carried that same dedication and excellence throughout her life. She was a God fearing woman who served faithfully in every calling she was given, always giving her whole heart. She valued time, disliked being late, and lived with purpose and intention.
Above all, Sophia cherished her eternal companion, Apimeleki Turaga, and her eternal family. She especially had a deep and tender love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought her so much joy and happiness. They were truly one of her greatest blessings.
On April 5, 2026 Easter Sunday, surrounded by her loving family, Sophia peacefully passed on and was reunited with her beloved husband and her two sweet children, Emosi and Rejeli.
Her legacy of love, faith, service, and strength will live on through all who knew and loved her.
