Ernest "Sonny Boy" Abaya, 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 2, 2025 in Aiea.
Ernie was an inspiration to all. Despite his many ailments, such as blindness, he used his (dis)abilities to encourage and inspire others that life can still be beautiful in times of adversity. Ernie's Love and Trust that "God's timing is perfect no matter what we are going through" allowed him to live fearlessly. He always lived and will forever Live by Faith And Love. His smile and laughter will truly be missed. He is now Home.
Ernie was a proud member of Kane'ohe Lions Club and many other community organizations. He believed that life is not about us, it's about how we can serve others. He was a graduate of James Campbell High School Class of 1983, a pit crew member for Hawaiian Magic Racing Team, worked at NAPA and Servco Windward Auto.
Ernie is survived by his Wife, Barbara (Bonifacio) Abaya; Daughter, Alexis (Ryan) Abregano; Son, Alika Abaya; Mother, Sue Mayonado; Brothers Jace and Jonathan Flores; numerous family and friends.
Ernie was preceded in death by his Father, Ernest "Sonny" Abaya (2018); and his Sister, Darlene Merritt (2010).
