A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at The First Chinese Church of Christ in Hawaii. Visitation at 9am, Service at 10am.
James “Jimmy” Yan Chin "Chinny" Young 80, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 4, 2025. He was born in Honolulu to James Yan Wo and Eva Ching Young on April 15, 1944 and grew up in Kane'ohe. He graduated from McKinley High School before attending Honolulu Technical School and started as an auto mechanic and tow truck operator with Oahu Towing. He eventually founded The Rod Shop Auto Repair with his brother Rodney until 1995. Upon retiring from the Auto repair business, he moved to Hilo, Hawaii where he built an orchid farm, MARCC Nursery. He lived in Hilo until 2020 when he returned to Honolulu.
He was known for his generosity, humor, wisdom, and love of life. His advice was often sought after, given freely. He lived life to the fullest and especially loved spending time with his family and friends.
Chinny is survived by his wife, Nathleen Tan; children Marcus (Carrie Ann), Clarice (Jennifer), and Craig; grandchildren Isabella and Gabriella; siblings Judith, Burma (Everette), Evans (Sharon), Merilyn (James), and Rodney; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.
