Moira Ann Johnson

Moira Ann Johnson (née Smith), aged 72, passed away peacefully at Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 5, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Moira was born on December 13, 1953, to the late Patricia Smith (Langan) and Kenneth Smith of Milford, CT. She graduated from Milford High School. She spent most of her life dedicated to her family as a loving homemaker and mother, before bringing her warmth and hard work to Cummins Diesel in Columbus, Indiana, Walgreens in Seymour, Indiana, and K-Mart in both Kailua-Kona and Honolulu, Hawaii.

A woman of many passions, Moira was an amateur craft maker who took great joy in creating homemade soaps and body care products. Her hands were rarely still; she loved tending to her garden, baking sweet treats, and cleaning her home—often while singing off-tune and dancing to the Backstreet Boys. Above all, Moira was a lifelong dog lover. She had a massive heart for rescue animals, especially senior dogs, and spent years volunteering at local shelters. Her deep Christian faith comforted her throughout her life, and she attended St. Patrick’s Church in Honolulu, HI.

Moira was preceded in death by her grandparents, Patrick and Ruth Langan; her mother, Patricia A. Smith(Langan); her father, Kenneth G. Smith; her sister, Ellen Pontolilo; her husband, Max Deitz; and her husband, Dennis Johnson.

She leaves behind a large, loving family who will miss her dearly, including her sons, U.S. Navy Senior Chief STGCS(SW/SS) Patrick Powers (Traci) of Chipiona, Spain, and Howard Powers (U.S. Army Veteran) of Seattle, Washington. She was an incredibly proud grandmother to her cherished grandchildren: Cody Powers, a tropical marine biology graduate student at the University of Essex in Colchester, UK; Sacha Powers, a law student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa; Kiera Powers, an astrophysics student at American Military University; and Cullen Powers, an entrepreneur and K1 Speed E-Kart World Championship competitor of Orange County, CA. She is also survived by her siblings, Timothy Smith, John (Whitney) Smith, Sheri (Richard) Kaplan, Jeremiah (Patti) Smith, and Richard (Libby Joy) Smith.
