In Loving Memory of Ronald Dean Gochenouer

Ronald Dean Gochenouer, 63, passed suddenly on June 18, 2026, while quietly
serving our Lord. He was born on March 18, 1963, in Fort Benning, Georgia, to George
and Frances Gochenouer. He grew up in Aliamanu, HI, where he attended Radford
High School and graduated in 1981. After graduating High School, he attended
college and played baseball at Hawaii Pacific College where he met the love of his life,
Teresa.
Ron’s life was one of dedication, hard work and selflessness. This all stemmed
from a phrase his coach would tell him at Radford where he played as a linebacker for
the football team,“You find a void and fill it.” Ron saw plenty of voids in our world.
When he saw voids in our church and our community, he filled them. He saw who
needed help and stepped in where he was needed. Ron dedicated most of his life
working in the petroleum industry, loyally serving his employer, Petrospect Inc., for 33
years. Ron also volunteer-coached sports for all of his children and officiated
basketball for 10 years across many basketball leagues including the OIA, ILH, and
NCAA. Ron also was a great man of faith, beginning his faith journey later in life at the
age of 31. He saw the void of men in the church and challenged them to strengthen
their relationship with God and change the world. He would always say,”We must first
strengthen our relationship with God, which will strengthen our marriage, which will in
turn strengthen our family, which will change the world.” Ron began his Men’s ministry
with Fishers of Men Hawai’i over 10 years ago. He began having meetings for men to
talk about their struggles, strengthen their faith and know that they are not alone. “You
are not original”, Ron would say, “ we all share similar problems, and finding like
minded men to share and talk about our experiences will help us solve them.” He
would fly in national speakers for annual conferences, and would have weekly
meetings with That Man is You!, a Catholic leadership program. He most recently
started the Catholic Men’s Fellowship of Hawai’i where his mission was to start a small
men’s group in every parish in the Diocese of Honolulu. He was successful in starting men's
groups on Oahu, Maui and Hawai’i Island. Ron inspired countless men to
strengthen their relationship with Christ and to better their marriage and family.

In attempting to try something new, Ron began a monthly movie night at the
Kamiano Center in 2010. After seeing the amount of homeless people that attended,
Ron wanted to do more for the homeless in the Downtown area. Naturally, he began
the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace Outreach Ministry. In collaboration with
Project Vision Hawaii, together they provided food, clothing, necessities, and an
opportunity for a weekly shower for more than 8 years. With his wife, Teresa, Ron also
served on Rachel’s Vineyard retreats for over 5 years helping those hurting from the
effects of abortion.

Ron is survived by his loving wife Teresa, his seven children: James, Matthew,
Benjamin, Ian, Isaac, Rachel, Catherine and his 12 Grandchildren: Sariah, Jestin,
Owen, Angelina, Koa, Iris, Gabriel, Leianne, Nora, Raphael, Malia and Eliott. He is an
amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be sincerely missed by all.
